New Dinosaur Family

A fossilised bone dug up near Hastings 113 years ago has been recognised as a completely new family of dinosaur. The animal belongs to a general type of dinosaur called a sauropod - which was characterised by a large body, a long neck and a small head. A PhD student from the University of Portsmouth stumbled upon the specimen while browsing through the shelves of London's Natural History Museum. The fossil represents the dorsal vertebra (back bone) of a new family, genus and species of dinosaur now named Xenoposeidon proneneukus. It lived about 140 million years ago, was about the size of an elephant and weighed 7.5 tonnes. This is very cool because we never know what our scientists will figure out next. Its also cool because a student figured this out. We should care about this because anything is predictible. They thought it was a Brotasaraus, because of it's bone structure but it tured out to be a totally different thing.

An obscure comet discovered more than a century ago suddenly became about a million times brighter late last month, wowing amateur astronomers in Colorado and around the world. Scientists are so intrigued with the changeable Comet Holmes, they asked for, and got, emergency viewing time on the over-scheduled Hubble Space Telescope last week. The comet was discovered in the 1890s by amateur astronomer Edwin Holmes. At the time it was also strangely luminous for a few months, said Chris Peterson, owner of a robotic telescope in Guffey that's used to track big meteors for the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Holmes completes its orbit every seven years, but it never gets close enough to the sun to go through the regular, bright outgassings of more well-known comets, such as Halley or Hale-Bopp, he said. This is very cool because it was forund in the 1980's and has been getting brighter ever since. Some of these things that scientists find are really cool and should be apperciated. It got about one million times brighter since it was discovered. The core is about 6 miles across and can be seen at night sometimes.

Avs win in OT

From the article by Jose Theodore. Ryan Smyth scored 23 seconds into overtime and Theodore made 39 saves to give Colorado a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday night. Marek Svatos tied it at 2 with 4:15 left in regulation. Joe Sakic set up the winner and also scored for Colorado to reach the 1,600-point mark. Alex Tanguay and Matthew Lombardi scored for Calgary, and Miikka Kiprusoff made 19 saves. The Avalanche opened the scoring when Sakic converted a feed from Wojtek Wolski at 7:27 of the first period. A short time later, Tanguay got behind the Avalanche defense, but was thwarted by Theodore on a breakaway attempt. I think people in Colorado should defiently care about this because it is our home hockey team and even if you dont like hockey, you can support our team.

St. Louis vs. Columbus

Nash scored in his fifth straight game, this one an almost indescribable goal on a shot between his legs, and the Blue Jackets beat the St. Louis Blues 3-0 on Thursday night. Jared Boll had a goal, Jiri Novotny was awarded one, and Pascal Leclaire racked up another shutout on 36 saves as the Blue Jackets extended the best start in the franchise's seven years. Ahead 1-0 and on the power play late in the second period, the Blue Jackets worked the puck around the perimeter and had several good scoring chances. Ron Hainsey then tried a slap shot from the blue line that was just wide to the right of the goal. Nash played the ricochet off the boards like Manny Ramirez fielding a ball off the Green Monster, stretching to reach the puck to pull it in and then lifting the shot between his legs and high into the top of the net. I love hockey and my favorite team is the Washington Capitals. I don't think people should care about this article unless they like hockey. But even if you do not like hockey, you can still appreciate good game play.

Higher Education

From the U.S. department of education. U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings today announced the award of $30 million to 22 institutions of higher education that were directly impacted by Hurricanes Katrina or Rita. Many of the schools will use their awards to construct or renovate damaged buildings and classrooms, some of which have been housed in temporary trailers. Others will use the funds to offset income lost as a result of enrollment declines, to fund grants for students that would have been covered by lost revenue, or to fund faculty and staff needed to teach and advise students. I think people should care about this because schools are being held in trailers and people who are getting scholarships cannot get them because the money is being used to rebuild the schools. Many people kinda forgot about Katrina and what happened to the schools. Well here it is people the classes are being held in trailers and kids aren't going to school. If you got a scholarship, and a hurricane happened, that scholarship would go away and pay for the damages that it caused.

The article from the Denver Post is about a man who had purchased 60 tickets, totaling $3,090, for the upcoming series against the Arizona Diamondbacks through a Coors Field ticket window before they sold out so he could sell them for $14,000 profit. The man sold two $100 seats to two undercover officers Wednesday for $300 a piece. I don't think this is fair because you see people always trying to sell a Rockie's ticket for $20 over price and the police never stop them. i think he only got arrested because the Rockies are in the playoffs. Like i said people never get arrested for this because it isn't worth their time. People should care about this because it isn't fair to this guy at all.

The article by Mr. Warlick is about google facts being close to completly false. This is a crucial problem for us in education because Google is telling kids that look up this information, that whatever they write is true. I think the inernet is a wonderful resource and it should be used when nessary but some things you do not need the internet. You could use text books or something else. I dont want to get the wrong information becuase thats not what happened and i don't want to learn flase information. Mr. Warlick talks about how his son found 9/11 information but this information told him that someone had BOMBED the bulding not flew into it. This is very important becuase he would of thought that his whole life because of what Google told him.
