Denver Snow Storms
In the Denver post article by George Merritt many home owners are worried about the Colorado snow season because $19 million contingency fund this year for the first time in memory, and city officials are crossing their fingers that this season will not bring another major snowstorm. Each year, the city puts at least 2 percent of its budget into a reserve fund for unexpected events. So far this year, the city has spent nearly $11.6 million of the $18.9 million it has in reserves. Digging out from a series of winter storms ate up about $8.5 million of the contingency. This is the year we expect to spend every dollar of our contingencies," acting budget director Ed Scholz told the City Council on Wednesday. "It is the first time that anyone I've talked to can remember that that is the case." I think this concerns everyone who owns a home, or business because the government has to pay for the broken down buildings and houses if you have homeowners insurance. To pay for a new roof is very expensive and some people don't have that kind of money to spend, I can relate to this because our home needs a new roof and if the rain or snow breaks through, then our house insurance will pay for the damages to our house.
